Our Story

Glätta Risa was created by Kate Kinzie when she wanted to make beautiful, minimal products using her hands + her imagination. Ceramics seemed like a good process to use those two things combined with her aesthetic.

The name originated from a combination of a Swedish word, Gätta, meaning “smooth/glaze/gloss'“ and Kate’s middle name, Risa, meaning “laughter”. The two intertwined names reveal an idea of the visual truth of what makes Gätta Risa quintessentially her, from the core/middle of who she is.

There is something nice in the connection of that and a middle name, which is mashed in between things, but quite often is really unique and family related, but always shied away from because it isn’t always form fitting to society.

So what started as a pandemic hobby, has turned into her full-time work that she loves working through every day.
